4.8 ZoomDoc Home ECG Holter Monitoring Service

ZoomDoc offers a home-based ambulatory ECG monitoring service using the Cortrium C3w Cable-Free Holter Monitor (“Monitor”). The service is designed to record and assess cardiac rhythm activity over a prescribed monitoring period ranging from 24 hours to 7 days.

By purchasing, booking, or using this service, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.

Nature of the Service

The Home ECG Holter Monitoring Service is intended to assist in the detection and assessment of cardiac rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias). The service includes:

  • Delivery of the Monitor to the patient’s nominated address.
  • Provision of instructions for fitting, using, and returning the Monitor.
  • Collection and processing of ECG recordings.
  • Generation of a specialist ECG report by Cortrium’s electrophysiology reporting service.
  • Clinical review of the report and ECG rhythm recordings by ZoomDoc doctors.
  • Provision of a clinical summary and interpretation to the patient.

This service is intended to support clinical assessment and is not a substitute for emergency medical care, ongoing cardiology care, or comprehensive medical evaluation.

Patient Eligibility and Pre-Assessment

All patients must complete a pre-assessment questionnaire prior to receiving the Monitor.

Patients are responsible for ensuring that all information provided is complete, accurate, and up to date.

ZoomDoc reserves the right to decline, postpone, or cancel testing where:

  • The service is not clinically appropriate;
  • Important medical information has not been disclosed;
  • There are concerns regarding patient safety; or
  • The pre-assessment questionnaire is incomplete.

Suitability and Contraindications

The Cortrium C3w Monitor may not be suitable for all patients.

This service should not be used by patients who have:

  • An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD);
  • A permanent pacemaker;
  • A cardiac resynchronisation therapy device (CRT device);
  • Any other implanted cardiac rhythm management device, unless approved by their treating cardiologist.

Patients must disclose any implanted cardiac device during the pre-assessment process.

ZoomDoc reserves the right to decline testing where the service is considered unsuitable or clinically inappropriate.

Patient Responsibilities

Patients are responsible for:

  • Completing the pre-assessment questionnaire accurately and honestly.
  • Following all instructions provided regarding fitting, use, care, and return of the Monitor.
  • Wearing the Monitor for the prescribed monitoring period.
  • Maintaining the Monitor in good condition.
  • Returning the Monitor promptly and securely using the return packaging and instructions supplied.

Failure to follow the provided instructions may result in:

  • Poor quality recordings;
  • Inconclusive results;
  • Delays in reporting;
  • Damage to the Monitor; and/or
  • Additional charges as set out in these Terms.

Care and Use of the Monitor

The Cortrium C3w Monitor is designed to be worn during normal daily activities and is water-resistant.

Patients should follow all instructions supplied with the Monitor.

The manufacturer advises that patients must not:

  • Submerge the Monitor in water;
  • Wear the Monitor whilst swimming;
  • Use the Monitor in a sauna;
  • Use the Monitor in a steam room;
  • Expose the Monitor to excessive heat, moisture, or environmental conditions that may damage the device.

Failure to comply with these instructions may affect the quality of the ECG recording and may damage the Monitor.

ZoomDoc accepts no responsibility for recordings that are compromised as a result of failure to follow the provided instructions.

Return of Equipment

The Monitor remains the property of ZoomDoc at all times.

Patients are responsible for ensuring the Monitor is returned securely using the packaging and return method specified in the instructions provided.

Failure to return the Monitor within fourteen (14) days of completion of the monitoring period may result in a charge of £350, representing the replacement cost of the device.

Patients may also be charged up to £350 where the Monitor is:

  • Lost;
  • Stolen;
  • Damaged beyond reasonable wear and tear;
  • Not returned; or
  • Returned in a manner inconsistent with the return instructions provided.

ZoomDoc reserves the right to recover such charges using the payment method supplied at the time of booking or by any other lawful means.

Technical Limitations

Whilst reasonable efforts are made to ensure successful ECG recording and reporting, ZoomDoc cannot guarantee that every recording will be of sufficient quality for analysis.

ZoomDoc shall not be liable for any failure to provide results arising from:

  • Technical malfunction of the Monitor;
  • Software failures;
  • Hardware failures;
  • Connectivity issues;
  • Data transmission failures;
  • Incomplete recordings;
  • Poor quality recordings;
  • Patient misuse of the Monitor; or
  • Circumstances beyond ZoomDoc’s reasonable control.

Where clinically appropriate, ZoomDoc may, at its sole discretion, offer a repeat test. ZoomDoc is under no obligation to do so.

Reporting Process

Following receipt of the returned Monitor, ZoomDoc will upload the ECG recording data to Cortrium for analysis.

Cortrium’s electrophysiology reporting service will review the recording and generate a specialist ECG report.

The report and ECG rhythm recordings will then be reviewed by a ZoomDoc doctor, who will provide a clinical interpretation and summary to the patient.

The report is based solely on the ECG recording obtained during the monitoring period.

Turnaround Times

Following receipt of the Monitor by ZoomDoc, recordings are ordinarily uploaded to Cortrium for analysis.

Cortrium generally provides reports within two (2) business days of successful upload.

Following receipt of the report, ZoomDoc will review and communicate the findings to the patient as soon as reasonably practicable.

All turnaround times are estimates only and are not guaranteed.

ZoomDoc shall not be liable for delays caused by:

  • Postal or courier services;
  • Technical issues;
  • Cortrium reporting delays;
  • High demand;
  • Force majeure events; or
  • Circumstances outside ZoomDoc’s reasonable control.

Not an Emergency Service

The Cortrium C3w Monitor is a recording device only.

It does not provide:

  • Real-time monitoring;
  • Continuous clinical supervision;
  • Emergency alerts;
  • Automatic transmission of ECG data;
  • Immediate medical review; or
  • Emergency response services.

The Monitor contains no alarm function, and ZoomDoc does not receive live ECG recordings, real-time notifications, or alerts regarding abnormal heart rhythms, cardiac events, or other medical emergencies.

ZoomDoc does not monitor recordings whilst the Monitor is being worn.

Patients must not rely upon the Monitor or this service for emergency medical care or urgent clinical assessment.

Medical Emergencies and Urgent Symptoms

If you experience any concerning symptoms, including but not limited to:

  • Chest pain;
  • Severe shortness of breath;
  • Collapse or fainting;
  • Loss of consciousness;
  • Palpitations associated with dizziness;
  • Stroke symptoms; or
  • Any other urgent or concerning medical symptoms,

You should immediately seek medical advice from a healthcare professional, contact emergency services, NHS 111 (where appropriate), or attend your nearest Emergency Department.

You should not wait for completion of the monitoring period or for receipt of your results before seeking medical attention.

Clinical Limitations

No cardiac monitoring test can guarantee detection of every arrhythmia or cardiac condition.

A normal ECG recording:

  • Does not exclude all heart conditions;
  • Does not guarantee the absence of future cardiac events;
  • Does not replace a consultation with a healthcare professional.

Intermittent arrhythmias may not occur during the monitoring period and therefore may not be detected.

Additional investigations, referrals, treatment, or specialist review may be required depending on the findings and clinical circumstances.

Data Sharing and Processing

To provide this service, ECG recordings and relevant clinical information may be shared with Cortrium and its authorised reporting services for analysis and report generation.

By using this service, patients consent to:

  • Collection and processing of ECG recordings;
  • Transfer of ECG data to Cortrium for analysis;
  • Clinical review by ZoomDoc doctors;
  • Communication of results electronically.

All personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection legislation and ZoomDoc’s Privacy Policy.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ZoomDoc shall not be liable for:

  • Failure to detect intermittent or infrequent arrhythmias;
  • Delays in processing or reporting;
  • Technical failures affecting recording or analysis;
  • Software or hardware failures;
  • Data transmission issues;
  • Poor quality recordings;
  • Inconclusive results;
  • Decisions made by patients based solely on the results of the service;
  • Loss of earnings;
  • Indirect, consequential, incidental, or special damages arising from use of the service.

ZoomDoc’s total liability in connection with the Home ECG Holter Monitoring Service shall not exceed the amount paid by the patient for the service.

Nothing in these Terms shall exclude or limit liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by negligence;
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
  • Any liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.

Consent

By booking, purchasing, or using the Home ECG Holter Monitoring Service, patients confirm that they:

  • Have read and understood these Terms & Conditions;
  • Have completed the pre-assessment questionnaire honestly and accurately;
  • Understand the limitations of the service;
  • Understand that the service is not an emergency monitoring service;
  • Consent to the processing and sharing of ECG data for diagnostic purposes;
  • Agree to comply with all instructions regarding use and return of the Monitor; and
  • Accept responsibility for the replacement cost of any Monitor that is lost, damaged, or not returned in accordance with these Terms.
